If only watches could talk !
This watch is really nothing special, Military style, Chrome Plated case which is in good condition, the movement is a very basic Pin Pallet Swiss movement,
Its story comes alive when you look at the back, there amateurishly engraved is the following :
1453
Sergeant J.Thornton
Home Guard.
We believe he was stationed in Northamptonshire.
Formed in 1940 after the miracle of Dunkirk and the very real threat of a Seaborne German Invadion, the Home Guard was formed as a civilian territorial / guerrilla force to make any landing by the Germans as diffult as possible.
While most people in the UK know the Home Guard through the popular BBC TV series Dads Army, the Home Guard were a serious and by the end of the war professional army.
This watch is a slice of Wartime History and we are really pleased to pass it on for its next tour of duty !
