This is a beautiful Elgin Sportsman Automatic Gents Dress Watch.
The Sportsman Range was bourne out of necessity, Elgin were losing market share to brands like Timex and felt they needed to respond with a range that was both cheaper and more of a functional yet sporty range, hence The Sportsman, to keep costs down Elgin had movements made in various European Countries primarily France & Germany, this particular model has a German made movement.Unfortunately this wasn't enough to stem the tide of cheaper watches and by 1970 it was all over.
The Watch is in between good and very good condition, the case is yellow gold plate and a screw down steel back, there are some scratches primarily on the back, the silver linen patterned dial is in immaculate condition with virtually no sign of ageing.
Inside the case we have a German Cal.PUW 1363 17 Jewel Lever movement signed Elgin Germany.
Cosmetically overall this is in good to very good condition and running well.
