c.1939 Rolex Raleigh Gents Military Watch landed on Juno Beach 6th June 1944 strapped to the wrist of the owner. Providence provided. 
 
This is Rolex Raleigh Gents Military Watch with providence, owned by Lawrence Dunleavy he was serving with the Canadian Queens Own Rifles as an Artillery Spotter, he landed with the first wave at Bernieres-sur-Mer or known as Juno Beach on the 6th June 1944 ie D-Day. His landing craft hit a mine and the occupants including the owner had to jump into the water. The water came up to his chin he later recounted and holding his Rifle in one hand and his surveying equipment in the other he made his way to the beach. 
 
The watch is one of a number of iterations that Rolex produced for the Canadian & commonwealth markets. Issued with names like Royalite, Victory, Firefly, Solar Aqua, Lipton, Centregraph Shipmate, Skyrocket and Recorda. Available to buy in a few stores and PXs it was popular with Airmen, Sailors and Soldiers prior to their departure to the UK to fight in the war. 
 
All original steel case is in good condition, the crown is non original, the dial does show some wear ( understandable considering it’s history) this Rolex production case is marked on the inside of the case and under the dial, it features a cal 59 Rolex movement. 
This watch has been fully repaired and serviced and is running very well.
