c.1975 Omega De Ville 'Emerald' Andrew Grima Designed Gents Dress Watch.
In 1969, Omega commissioned London-based artist jeweler Andrew Grima to design a collection of watches, About Time, that even today remain unsurpassed for their ingenuity, audacity and powerful, sculptural design. Though Mr Grima was already acknowledged as a maverick of modern jewelry design, and was arguably the most innovative designer of his generation with a wildly fashionable shop at No. 80 Jermyn Street and a Royal Warrant, he had never previously designed a watch. As the jeweler to The Queen, Princess Margaret and Jackie O said: “If you need to know the time, you ask your chauffeur.” These watches ( if you can find one) are now Museum Pieces.
The original collection was a huge success and to capitalise on this, later in the 1970s Omega launched a range of watches inspired by Grimas work. The Time in Style series of watches were more affordable and marketed through the De Ville, Constellation and Jeux d’Or ranges. Unlike the original Grima series, the Time in Style watches did in fact have Omega on the dials, more conventional dial layouts including hour markers and were entirely made in the Omega factory.
This watch is an Omega De Ville 'Emerald' so called for the shape of the Gem cut Rock Crystal glass. The case is Gold Plted with a steel back and is in good condition, unfortunately the original Omega button has been lost and an unbranded one fitted.
The dial does have some blemishes, but nothing too detrimental.
Inside the case is a 17 Jewel Swiss Lever Movement signed Omega Watch Co.
Cosmetically overall in good condition for its age and running well
